🏝️ WAKE ISLAND IS BACK
The most legendary map in Battlefield history returned with Update 1.4.2.0, as part of everything Battlefield 6's Season 4 brought with it.
Why Wake Island matters
Few maps in shooter history carry the weight Wake Island does. It first appeared in the original Battlefield back in 2002 and has returned in practically every major entry in the series since. Its design — a narrow island with two bases split by open water, built for air and ground combat happening at once — became a template other military shooters ended up copying.
What Season 4 brought along with the map
Wake Island's return arrived packaged with the rest of Season 4's "Top Gun" content: new two-seat fighter jets, the Carrier Strike mode, and Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep, all built to give aerial combat as much of a spotlight as ground combat.
The free week
Battlefield 6 was available to play for free from August 18 to 25, timed to line up exactly with Wake Island's return. That's an obvious window for anyone who didn't already own the game to try exactly the content that was generating the most conversation at the time.
What's next
With Wake Island back and Season 4's aerial content already live, Battlefield 6 keeps leaning on its own history to hold interest — something that's worked well for the series for more than two decades.
