Battlefield REDSEC is getting its biggest update since launch, and one of the headline additions is Rapid Royale, a new, faster way to play Battle Royale. EA confirmed the mode on September 8 in an official post covering everything coming to REDSEC's competitive scene and beyond.
What Is Rapid Royale?
Built on the same foundation as REDSEC's existing Battle Royale, Rapid Royale is designed around faster matches, more frequent engagements, and less time spent searching for the next fight. According to EA, it turns up the pace with:
- Reduced player counts
- Smaller play spaces
- Faster-moving circles
- Shorter match lengths
EA hasn't shared exact numbers yet (player count, map size, or match duration), saying only that "we'll have more to share as we get closer to Season 5." No release date for Season 5 itself has been announced.
It Arrives Alongside Proximity Chat
Separate from Rapid Royale but landing much sooner, Proximity Chat comes to REDSEC Battle Royale on September 15. It lets nearby squads hear each other, opening the door to standoffs, last-second negotiations, and other player-driven moments in the final circle.
Competitive REDSEC Is Also Back in a Big Way
Rapid Royale isn't the only thing changing in REDSEC. EA also confirmed a full competitive structure returning across three tiers:
- Season 4 Cash Cups (September 19 - October 10): four standalone tournaments across APAC, EMEA, and the Americas, with a combined $150,000 USD prize pool.
- Open Series (October 24 - November 21): the qualifying path into the Elite Series, run through Battlefy across the same three regions.
- Elite Series (December 4, 2026 - January 16, 2027): the top tier of REDSEC competition, now focused entirely on Battle Royale, with a $1,338,000 USD global prize pool split across APAC, EMEA, and the Americas. The Season Finals broadcast on January 16, 2027 at 3:00 p.m. PT for the Americas region.
