World of Warcraft's second day at BlizzCon 2026 belonged to Talebound, a brand new PvE action RPG game mode coming to Midnight with the Echoes of the Worldcore content update. Lead Content Designer Jake Miller and Associate Game Director Paul Kubit unveiled it during the Midnight What's Next panel, and Blizzard followed up with a full breakdown on the official site.
A Mysterious Storyteller, and Very Dark Tales
Talebound pulls players into the tales of a mysterious Storyteller whose favorite stories lean toward the macabre. Solo or with friends, you explore themed levels filled with enemies, bosses, puzzles, treasure, and relics, chasing the terrors waiting beyond the next page.

Between runs, you return to Quillgrave, a cozy, lantern-lit village that offers respite from the horrors outside, but not too much comfort. The village, and the Storyteller, expect you back out there finishing the story.
Four Stories at Launch
Talebound launches with four tales to explore, each with its own setting, enemies, and boss encounters:
- Darkhaven — home to Konrad von Sonnesheim, The Lord Marshal, and Alexandre Dozsenc, The Blood Bishop.
- Greenthistle Wood — houses Granny Greenthumb, Witch of the Woods, Ylska Vilefang, Witch of the Wilds, and Mobog, The Giant of Greenthistle.
- Greywake's Expedition — the tale of the many who fell to Zzyg'th, The Hadal Tyrant, and Chathoa, The Herald from Beyond.
- Grove of the Night Court — a frightening chronicle of Tilywth, The Fairy Queen, and Maernok, The Nightmare King.
Three New Classes
Every Talebound class can double jump, dodge, and guard, making positioning central to combat:
- Slayer — martial might and monster-hunting knowledge, wielding a sword and a gun, with abilities like Slash, Explosive Shot, and Minefield.
- Inquisitor — holy zeal that burns through illusions, with Purify, Condemn, and the empowered Denounce.
- Witch — lightning, poison, spiders, and ravens for a darker, spell-driven playstyle, including Brewing Storm and Winter Spiders.

Gearing Up Between Runs
After each run, Quillgrave's vendors help you prepare for the next attempt: the Arcanist provides potions and flasks, the Scribe offers talents that change your abilities, the Outfitter improves your base stats, and the Antiquarian grants passives that reshape how you approach each tale.
Rewards include the Ensemble: Witch Hunter's Shadow Attire transmog set, haunting housing decor like the Quillgrave Storyteller's Lectern, and the Shadowbound Storybook mount.
When Can You Play It?
Blizzard is planning an early preview of Talebound on the PTR sometime in October, ahead of its full launch with the Echoes of the Worldcore update.
The Rest of the Midnight Roadmap
Talebound wasn't the only reveal from the Midnight What's Next panel. The 12.1.5 content update, currently on PTR, brings the new story campaign "The Promise of Tomorrow," a single-boss raid against Kith'ix, and the Labyrinths delve-like experience. Further out, Eclipse will close out the Worldsoul Saga with a new zone (The Mantle Vault), an 8-boss raid (The Worldcore) against Xal'atath herself, the first Legendary of Midnight, and a wave of Housing updates including Showcase and mannequins. Season 3 follows shortly after Eclipse, with a refreshed Mythic+ rotation and new top 1%/5% rewards judged by specialization.
It's a packed back half for Midnight, but Talebound is the one giving WoW players an entirely new way to play together outside the usual raid and dungeon loop.
